Our Harakeke

At Manawaru School, our Harakeke represents the way we bring our vision, “Empowering
learners for their future,” to life every day.
Like the harakeke plant, our school community is strong, connected, and growing together.
Each part of our Harakeke reflects the values, skills, and dispositions we believe our learners
need to successfully navigate the opportunities and challenges of modern life.
Through Learning to Know, Learning to Do, Learning to Be, and Learning to Live
Together, we support our students to become confident, capable, and compassionate people.
The qualities woven through our Harakeke — such as being resilient, collaborative,
reflective, empathetic, innovative, and connected — help prepare learners not only for
success at school, but for life beyond the classroom.
Our Harakeke guides the culture of our school, shaping how we learn, interact, solve
problems, and care for one another. It reflects our commitment to developing young people
who are adaptable, self-aware, and ready to contribute positively to their communities and the
wider world.
By living these values every day, our learners are empowered to grow into future-ready
citizens who can face challenges with confidence, build strong relationships, and continue
learning throughout their lives.
